Jaroslav Kořán & Milli Janatková – Double Album Launch “Songs of the Day and Night”

Milli Janatková and Jaroslav Kořán will launch their new double album Songs of the Day and Songs of the Night on Wednesday, May 13, at Čítárna Unijazz in Prague. The album is a cross-section of fifteen years of musical collaboration between the two artists, which began when they met in 2010. Their joint improvisations developed during recording sessions both in a home studio in Prague and at a cottage in the Bohemian Forest region.

Janatková layered spontaneous vocal improvisations over Kořán’s musical motifs, later enriched with additional instruments and sound design. The result is a diverse collection of energetic improvisation and ambient soundscapes, inspired by the sounds of nature and the city, as well as the shared playfulness of both artists.

“Milli Janatková appeared in my world as a fellow teacher at the conservatory. We quickly became friends, meeting around musical instruments as well as over lunches in the cafeteria, where we laughed a lot. This was followed by a series of musical collaborations and recordings. Strong compositions emerged, but also meditative pieces in which we play with real sounds and different perceptions of time.” Jaroslav Kořán

“The surprising harmony between voice and rhythms emerged almost immediately, and since then we had been planning to release an album. Most of the improvisations were lost to time, but fortunately some were preserved. We present the work of two visual artists and musicians who love free expression. With ears wide open, eyes wide awake, we are releasing Songs of the Day and Songs of the Night after fifteen years.” Milli Janatková

Milli Janatková is a musician and visual artist who bridges genres and artistic disciplines. She works in painting, printmaking, improvisation, composition, singing, and plays guitar and drums. In addition to performing on club and festival stages across the Czech Republic, she has also performed internationally (India, Nepal, Denmark, France, Greece, Germany, Portugal, and Norway). Her original albums Proměna, Mým kořenům, Hluboko, and Klid, prosím! have received awards such as the Independent Music Awards, LIT Talent Awards, and a nomination for the Classic Prague Awards. She has also worked with electronic music in collaboration with the project katsa.theo, earning a nomination for the Czech Anděl Awards in 2010 for the album Porto. Her work expresses respect for health and explores responsibility through understanding personal, ancestral, and cultural narratives. After twenty years of teaching and volunteer work, she now works as an independent artist.

Jaroslav Kořán works across music and sound, graphic design, photography, and video, with a focus on controlled randomness and the use of unconventional materials and techniques. He plays various percussion instruments, including his own creation, the “Horologe of Dreamers.” His main domain is improvisation, as well as composing for film and theatre. He is also involved in recording and sound design, video production and editing, photography, and visual art. In 1992, he founded improvisational music ensembles “The Horologe of Dreamers” and “Forgotten Orchestra od the Dreamland.” He collaborates on a wide range of theatre, film, dance, and exhibition projects with many artists. He has released numerous original albums.

The album launch concert will take place in Prague at Čítárna Unijazz on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 8:00 PM. The album is created in collaboration with Michal Kořán and released by Blue Lizard.
